Understanding the Love of God

Devotion 1- Understanding the Love of God Our finite human mind can never fully comprehend and define an infinite God. If God is incomprehensible, then so is His love, for God is Love. If we can never fully fathom it, how can we precisely define it? However, let’s try to examine the full counsel of God in the Scriptures to have a glimpse of His divine love so that we may all learn and grow. Jn.17:20-25 - “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that the

Perfected in Love

Devotion 2- Perfected in Love 1 Jn.4:18  – “ There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”   What does it mean to be ‘perfect in love ? It means that we are exactly like Him in glory and nature. When we are perfected in love, our heart beats to the heartbeat of God, our mind flows with the mind of Christ, and our souls resonate with the compassion of Christ. There is no more fear as we are perfectly one in Him. It is not our love but the love or glory of the God that transforms us. 2 Cor.3:18  – “ But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” Jn.1:16 – “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace .” Love and glory can only be received in proportion to the transformation of our inner soul. We should learn to minister a

Walking in Our Full Potential

Devotion 3 - Walking in our Full Potential Col.1:19  – “ For it pleased the Father that  in Him all the fullness should dwell…”   Col.2:9  – “ For  in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily…”   These two scriptures give us an important key to a successful Christian life. Christ was filled with the fullness of the Father and He walked in the perfect will of God. We can have the potential to walk in the same measure if only we could have the fullness of God dwell in us too. The Scripture also tells us clearly that we all have the potential to walk in perfect Christlikeness, “   till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ… ”   Although our Heavenly Father may love each of us equally, not all of us are always equally conscious of His love. Jesus, when He was physically manifested on earth, had twelve apostles, hundreds of other disciples and th

God's Love is God's Light

Devotion 4 - God’s Love is God’s Light Rom.5:5 – “ Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Through this scripture, we know that we have the love of God in us through the abiding of the Holy Spirit. 2 Cor.4:6 – “ For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to  give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” Here, the Bible speaks about the light that now shines in our hearts through Christ Jesus to give us understanding regarding the knowledge of the glory of God. Are they the same spiritual force? Or are they complementary but separate spiritual forces? For each has its distinct work in our lives; the former in character development and the latter in giving understanding into the knowledge of God. If they are the same spiritual force, then character becomes directly linked with understanding an

Love & Spiritual Stature

Devotion 5 - Love & Spiritual Stature 1 Jn.4:18 – “ There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” Since love and light are one spiritual force, the greatest love would produce the greatest light. And if Satan and the demonic fear light, it would mean also that they fear love. When light comes, darkness disappears.   Thus, perfect love not only cast out fear, it also cast out darkness. This would mean that walking in love is the best way to defeat the power of darkness in our life situations.   James 4:7-8 – “ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.    Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Our submission to walk in God’s Love will cause the devil to flee from us. When we do not walk in love, we do not have the power to resist the devil, as love and the power of God are one. Thus, the less we walk in the love of God, the less our li

Love & Faith

Devotion 6 – Love & Faith Faith is basically a relationship of trust with a person and not just a principle. It is the relationship with the Author and Finisher of our faith. This relationship is the core of our walk of faith. In the gospel, through faith, we have  union  with God in Christ. From start to finish, this union is God’s gracious work toward us. Our union with God was initiated by the Father and secured by the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary and is applied by the indwelling of the Spirit in us. It is all of grace. This union leads to  communion  with God - a two-way relationship in which our involvement matters. Salvation is not just about having our sins forgiven and escaping God’s judgment. God doesn’t simply save us from sin and death; he saves us  for  something more – a relationship with Him. Our choice and decision make a great difference in our experience of this relationship. We can pursue and enjoy a deeper love relationship or neglect it. Faith

To Love One is to Love Many

Devotion 7 - To Love One is to Love Many Matt.22:37-39 – “ Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the  Lord  your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’   This is the first and great commandment.    And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” This Scripture is commonly known as the great commandment – to love God and to love our neighbor. However, just like the lawyer in Luke 10:29, we can ask, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus answered by giving the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). To keep things in perspective, we define our neighbors as those who are in our immediate vicinity and circumstances of life. Learning to walk in love starts from somewhere and the most appropriate places to start are always our home, our ministry and workplace. To love one is to love many. To grow in love, we need to first love those who are in our circle of life. It is easy to love those whom we don’t meet so often but it’s a
